Sweet 15 is an old after school special probably from the late 80's early 90's. It's a coming of age story that focuses on family and amnesty. From the other reviews I've read, this show is a favorite of all Spanish teachers to show in class- that's where I saw it. It's basically about a 14 year old Mexican-American girl (Marta) who can't wait to have her Quinceañera and become a woman, but things keep getting in the way. Immigration is coming down hard on all illegal workers, like her father. But his family doesn't know he's illegal. Marta doesn't find out until she finds his file in the amnesty office where she works. Marta keeps getting in trouble too. Her new kind of boyfriend is older ( not 40, like some reviews say. He's probably 19 or 20. Granted, that's still to old for a 14 year old girl, but not 26 years older) and her family doesn't approve. They'd rather she debut with her weirdo cousin. Eventually, though, Marta comes to terms with the fact that she can't always get what she wants and decided family is more important than herself.
Lot of people say they didn't like this movie. That it was weird, and boring, and gross, but I actually really liked it a lot and couldn't wait for the next class so we could finish it. Even the uber popular " I don't give a crap" boys seemed to like it.
