Fun story about a girl's quest for lasting friendship, love, a painting, and an understanding of fanfiction.
When Sloane and her family move to their long-time vacation spot so her father can get over his writer's block, she makes real friends for the first time ever. When her friends' mother's last painting is "accidentally" sold she decides to get it back for them. In the meantime, practically nothing happens. The protagonist is weirdly cold and detached, but also not, which is weird, and, of all things, is a classically trained singer. Which is great, I'd love to be classically trained, but it didn't really do anything in the story except teach Sloane not to be stuck-up. Her father becomes obsessed with Teen-Wolf-esque fanfiction which somehow helps him write again. At the beginning, Sloane gets a job at the same place as her love-interest which you'd think would be a big part of the story but literally never comes up again. Also at the beginning, Gabe comes across -to me at least- to be a big tough guy who doesn't need any help, but then he completely changes into a little vulnerable boy.
The only really great parts of the story were the funny dialogue and Sloane's father. Everything else was moderately entertaining but pretty subpar.
